Rosacea and redness · Auckland
Persistent redness, flushing and visible vessels can be frustrating and unpredictable. We take a calm, skin-first approach to treatment planning.
Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that most often affects the central face. It may cause persistent redness, flushing, visible small blood vessels, sensitivity, bumps or pimples.
Symptoms vary and can change over time. A medical diagnosis should come from an appropriately qualified health professional, particularly when symptoms are new, severe or affect the eyes.
The exact cause is complex, but genetics, immune response, vascular reactivity and the skin barrier may all contribute. Common triggers differ between people.
Rosacea in context
Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory condition, not simply sensitive skin or a temporary blush. It often begins with flushing and may progress to persistent colour, visible vessels, burning, stinging or acne-like bumps. Symptoms vary widely, and some people also develop eye irritation. Because acne, dermatitis and other conditions can look similar, diagnosis is important when symptoms are new, severe or changing.
Heat, sun, alcohol, spicy food, vigorous exercise, stress and irritating products are common triggers, but the useful list is your own. A simple diary can help connect flare-ups with exposures without turning everyday life into a long set of restrictions. Gentle cleansing, moisturising and broad-spectrum sunscreen support the barrier and are central to most rosacea plans. Introduce new products one at a time and patch test when practical, so a reaction is easier to identify. Lukewarm water, fragrance-conscious formulas and avoiding unnecessary exfoliation can make daily care feel more predictable.
During an active flare the skin may need time to settle before cosmetic treatment. Prescription care can be important for inflammatory bumps or eye symptoms, and we may recommend medical review before proceeding. Avoiding harsh scrubs, strong peels and rapid changes in skincare can reduce avoidable irritation.
For suitable persistent redness and visible vessels, Laser Genesis or eLOS Rejuvenation may form part of a clinician-led plan. These treatments target selected vascular features; they do not cure rosacea or remove the need for trigger management and daily skincare. Settings, appointment spacing and aftercare are adjusted to the individual response.
Visible capillaries can occur with rosacea but may also appear independently. Our facial veins guide explains how vessel size, colour and location influence treatment. If you have brown patches as well as redness, assessment helps separate post-inflammatory pigment, sun damage and other causes before any combined plan is proposed.
Rosacea management is usually ongoing. Treatment may reduce visible redness or vessels, while flares can still occur when the skin meets a trigger. Temporary warmth, redness or swelling may follow a laser or light appointment, and strict sun protection is important throughout the course. Your clinician will explain what warrants a pause or medical review.
